Do you know that you might have unclaimed property? Unclaimed property is any financial asset that has been abandoned or unclaimed by the rightful owner for a specific period of time. Examples can include:
• Bank accounts and safe deposit boxes
• Stocks, bonds, mutual fund accounts
• Dividends, payroll and cashier’s checks
• Mineral interest or royalty payments
• Inactive savings accounts
• Life insurance proceeds
• Customer overpayments
• Gift certificates
• Court deposits, trust funds, escrow accounts
In the State of Nevada you can check if you have unclaimed property with the Nevada State Treasurer at http://www.nevadatreasurer.gov/Unclaimed_Property/UP_Home/
If you do have unclaimed property you can get the Instructions For Filing A Claim which will walk you through the process. Businesses can also check if there is unclaimed property with the State of Nevada. It doesn’t hurt to check and see if there could be unclaimed property in your name.
